About our Museum
The Canal Museum is the place to explore the history of the lift, Locks and Lives associated with Foxton Locks in exciting and innovative ways.
Thanks to the generosity of our partners and a big grant from the Arts Council the museum was transformed in 2015 into something unique and exciting.
There is something for everyone in the building, not just the waterway enthusiast and historian. Follow the canal round the museum and Fred will help you discover Foxton’s past and introduce the people that made it such a wonderful place.
We have the Boiler Game, which requires you to put coal on the fire to make the lift work, we have the play boat where children can explore life on the canal, we have
a great collection of waterway artefacts and stories, our working lift model, and our large screen story where you can watch while Fred tells
you our waterways history.
Visitors to Canal Museum , used words like ‘Excellent’, Fantastic, and Brilliant to describe the new interior.
