There is something for every volunteer at Foxton
On Site
We need your help to restore the site & keep it neat and tidy for visitors.
Regular work parties undertake mowing to keep the grass under control and maintain exhibits to ensure they are safe for visitors.
Hedge trimming and laying, litter picking around the site. All kinds of maintenance work undertaken. Volunteers learn new skills and meet interesting people.
Work parties are currently held at any time which is convenient for volunteers and fits in with the plans, or you can come and do some of the work at your own convenience. For the bigger voluntary tasks we work alongside volunteers from the Waterways Recovery Group.
Out and About with our Display stand
We need volunteers to help take the message out to other venues - canal festivals, local fetes, late night shopping.....
In The Museum
Museum duties are less physical ~
"Front of House" ~ dealing with customer enquiries and entry charges, selling items of stock.
Behind the scenes ~ sorting and recording the archive, cleaning & labelling historic items, helping to produce new displays.
Help is required to run the museum during holiday periods.
Also at weekends and bank holidays when one member of staff is not sufficient to field questions from the public, take entry payments and deal with sales.
Training
Full training will be given to anyone interested - even if it is only a couple of hours a week it all helps.
The Museum is currently staffed by the Keeper (Mike Beech) and a part-time assistant. Everyone else is a volunteer.
