We can offer conducted
tours of the site and museum for pre booked groups of visitors - both adult
parties and school groups. In or out of our normal opening times .
We collect your party at the designated place and walk with you round the site pointing out various features and answering questions. Few people know the Foxton site as well as our guides. You will see how the locks work, where the Inclined Plane was and where those important little bits are hidden. Tours can be done in a minimum of two hours, including the Museum but often take much longer!
The museum is improving every year. It has won Several important awards and much acclaim. The objects from the Foxton lift and locks are supported by wonderful curiosities from the canals and the Victorian era. There is something for everyone - a play boat for smaller visitors, a lock model with real water, which is fun for children of all ages, a touch screen computer show which puts you in charge of a large audio visual display, and two models of the Inclined Plane which demonstrate how the lift works. The latest display shows how the Trust and its partners intend to rebuild the lift and make it work.
We can work with
teachers and group leaders to ensure that you get the most from your visit.
Multiple group visits are welcome
