Logo, EdutainmentWe can offer conducted tours of the site and Museum for pre-booked groups of visitors - both adult parties and school groups - in or out of our normal Museum opening times .

Conducted Tours

We collect your party at the designated place and walk with you round the site pointing out various features and answering questions. Few people know the Foxton site as well as our guides. You will see how the locks work, where the Inclined Plane was and where those important little bits are hidden. Tours can be done in a minimum of two hours, including the Museum, but often take much longer! The Tours include entry to the Museum.

The Museum

The Museum is improving every year. It has won several important awards and much acclaim. The objects from the Foxton lift and locks are supported by wonderful curiosities from the canals and the Victorian era. There is something for everyone - a play boat for smaller visitors, a lock model with real water, which is fun for children of all ages, a touch screen computer show which puts you in charge of a large audio visual display, and two models of the Inclined Plane demonstrating how the lift works. we have a program of temporary displays which keep the museum fresh and topical. see What's On for details.

Get the Most From Your Visit

We can work with teachers and group leaders to ensure that you get the most from your visit.

Weather? Don't Worry we can usually re-schedule your visit.

Goody Bag

We offer goody bags for your group, this saves time in the shop, and everyone goes home with a small souvenir. The profit from this also helps keep the cost of visits down. The bags usually contain things like a postcard, pencil or pen, notebook and leaflets about Foxton, and the canals. etc. Prices start at £1.50 each bag.

We make sure that the bags are better value than if the same items are purchased from our shop.

Important Note

Please note that full payment is required in advance of the visit or, by arrangement, on the day of the visit . Refunds will only be made if the visit is cancelled at least 3 working days in advance as we still have to pay the extra staff we need for group visits.

Safety

Whilst the Foxton Inclined Plane Trust consider that the safety of visitors is very important, adults are expected to take responsibility for their own safety and supervision of children remains the responsibility of the group organiser. Foxton Inclined Plane Trust, its staff and Volunteers, will not accept responsibility for accidents arising from a lack of supervision or from irresponsible actions by its visitors.

Talks etc

Out of the main tourist season our Museum Keeper, Mike Beech is available for talks to any group. Subject content and length can vary depending on the audience. No two talks are ever the same. Main talk titles; 'Foxton, the Inclined Plane and the Lottery Project', 'Past Present and Future', 'Foxton and the Old Union Canals', 'Measham Pottery ~ Not Barge Ware', 'Wrecks and Ruins'.

We request a minimum of £30.00 donation, plus expenses and accommodation for talks further afield.
